The construction programme will be designed, as far as possible, to avoid disruptions to the existing train service. The intention is to have a public transport service operating throughout construction.  Most works can be done during weekends when the line isn’t in use.

We anticipate that the existing Melling station will continue to be in use, while the new platform is constructed, and the re-location is complete. Once complete the services will be transferred to the new station. While a number of short shutdowns may be required to undertake key parts of the project, we'll continue to provide public transport services and we'll communicate this information early.
