What do you mean by 'turning the city around' to face the river?

Currently Lower Hutt city has its back to the river, and some might not even realise we are, what's considered to be, a river city. 'Turning the city around' is about creating opportunities for people to see and interact with Te Awa Kairangi ǀ Hutt River - providing not only a physical connection but an emotional one to the river.

Making the river an active part of the city

Doing this will provide multi-modal access to, from and across the river. It'll also create opportunities to overlook, and interact with the river through recreation, play, leisure activities and new homes – making the river an active part of the city - extending the natural character of the river environment into Lower Hutt city.
