What options for flood protection were publicly consulted on?

As part of an extensive public engagement programme, two options were put forward for public consultation. They both met with three core objectives:

Objective 1

  • Upgrading flood protection to the community-agreed standard. This encompasses widening the river channel, raising the height of stop-banks and improving floodway capacity at Melling bridge. They also include replacing Melling Bridge and enhancing the riverside environment between Kennedy-Good Bridge to Ewen Bridge.

Objective 2

Linking the city centre to the river. As well as creating a promenade on the new stopbank, this part of the plan includes a river park and new residential and commercial development opportunities overlooking the river.
